Mahaffie Farmstead Porch
HarenLaughlin Construction was contracted to refurbish the Mahaffie Farmstead’s front and rear porches. The front porch had the floorboards, handrails, and ceiling replaced. The upper portion of the porch had the roofing, trim and handrails replaced.
The ceiling was replaced with tongue and groove poplar boards and the flooring was replaced with tongue and groove douglas fir. The handrail on the front porch is reinforced with an aluminum bar for horizontal support. A wood insert sets inside the top handrail to hide the aluminum from being seen. The lower portion of the railing is beveled and each spindle is cut in a birds mouth to sit flush. The post and handrails for top and bottom were primed and painted Mahaffie white.
The rear roof was completely torn off and replaced with cedar shake shingles, half round gutters, and copper flashing. Many of the rafters supporting the roof were replaced with new CCA treated studs, primed, and painted. The porch floor joists and flooring were replaced and painted “polished mahogany.” The skirt boards were completely replaced, primed, and painted as well.
“We are very appreciative for both excellent customer service and high-quality construction the HarenLaughlin team brought to this project. The end product is truly amazing!”
