Senior Living Projects

Home. Community. Warmth. Dignity. Dedication.

These qualities coupled with the construction experience and understanding that Haren can provide are what make our proven successes in senior care environments hold true. Your Haren team recognizes the nuances of a senior living community and puts every consideration into ensuring that your senior living facility lives up to the expectations of your clients and their families.

Senior Living General Contractor

Your Haren team has worked with many senior living communities to build or renovate buildings to better serve the needs of their residents. From memory care to independent living, the Haren construction team has been a part of new construction projects and renovations within the full continuum of care. Our projects range from installing cabinets in nursing stations to ground-up construction of 200-unit life plan communities.

Haren’s work with quality senior living providers has led to experience and understanding when expanding or renovating an existing facility. Previously Haren Contracting completed the demolition and new construction of an assisted living building. The new building is attached to two other buildings that also house assisted living residents. Haren and the Community discussed options for the new building. The Community was weighing their options for the new building’s HVAC. The Community decided to utilize the same HVAC system in their new building. This choice raised the cost of the construction marginally, but the Community’s existing facilities employees would not have to learn how to repair and maintain a new system. A small, short term cost increase for a quality product will save the care providers time and money in the long term.

Care Focused Construction

The health, vitality, safety, and quality of life of your residents are part of your Haren team’s focus when discussing plans and construction projects. Your residents’ quality of life is your Haren team’s top priority while working in your senior living facilities. Haren incorporates lessons learned from working in over 2419 resident rooms and over 39 communities around the country, to bring an unmatched level of senior living experience to your project.

At every phase of the project, your Haren team keeps the comfort, health, and wellness of residents top of mind, while simultaneously maximizing the efficiency of our staff, and delivering a project that is financially viable.

Early in the design phase, your Haren team will work collaboratively with architects, developers, and community stakeholders to maximize the value of the project. During construction, our project teams become a part of the community we are building. While working in your building, the Haren team considers ourselves an extension of your staff. Interacting with residents and collaborating with professionals in senior living to improve the lives of older adults gives us a deep sense of satisfaction.

Resident Occupied Renovation

Haren has worked with numerous senior living communities to complete renovations of 937 units of occupied independent living, assisted living, and memory care facilities. These projects require Haren to work closely with residents and facility staff. Successful completion of these projects required minimal disruption to residents and the daily operations of the facility. Working in occupied senior living communities during the COVID-19 pandemic requires our crews to adhere to strict PPE requirements as well as to conduct daily health screenings before entering the job site. Haren employed the following to optimize continuity of operations: HEPA filtration to mitigate indoor air pollution and strict work hours.

Senior Resident Safety

Haren has worked with multiple senior living communities to upgrade the safety of their buildings. Senior mobility is a high concern in all communities when it comes to providing better care.

Haren worked with John Knox Village to develop an innovative shower detail for the bathrooms. The roll-in shower detail features a linear drain and a smooth transition from the vinyl floor covering to the drain and the shower pan. Haren created a mockup to display the aesthetics and the function. The resulting showers function well and are easy for a senior using a wheelchair to enter the shower. New grab bars were added in the shower stalls to make accessibility to the shower seat more convenient for the resident.

Brookdale Overland Park

Brookdale Place is an independent living community built in 1987 and is home to more than 280 residents. Interior renovations included significant enhancements to the clubhouse facility, dining and common areas and the re-orientation and re-construction of the lobby grand staircase. Second-floor walkways were reconfigured to lower the floors, leaving the roof intact and providing upgraded resident access.

Hallmark at Creve Coeur

HarenLaughlin’s scope of work at The Hallmark of Creve Coeur included the conversion of 42 existing rooms from independent to assisted living and updates to the community’s first-floor common areas. Resident room improvements included space alterations to meet ADA guidelines, new carpet, flooring, paint, and fixtures throughout.

Silvercrest at College View

This senior living complex totals 136 units: 18 memory care, 52 assisted living, and 66 independent living. The project covers 193,406 square feet. The structure consists of wood frame, TPO roofing, and a brick facade with hard cedar plank colored siding. On top of the parking garage is a four-story independent living facility. The 47-stall garage is supported by concrete drilled piers.

Brookdale Overland Park

In 2010, Haren along with the architecture firm PGAV, completed construction of Brookdale Overland Park, a 119,000 SF CCRC. After ten years of consistent senior care, the corporate team at Brookdale Senior Living, again working with PGAV, reached out to complete a renovation of a skilled nursing wing in the Brookdale Overland Park community.

John Knox Village – VAL

Haren worked with John Knox Village to complete the construction of Village Assisted Living (VAL 400). This ground-up construction project began with the demolition of an outdated two-story facility. The Haren team built a single-story assisted living facility that features 25 units and a large common area.
