About

Company History

When HarenLaughlin Construction was founded in 1932, Charles W. Haren, Sr. engrained his personal values into the company. Integrity. Professionalism. Craftsmanship.

C.W. Haren, Sr. (known as “Pappy”) planned to work in the family banking business after his college graduation in 1931. Due to the Great Depression, banking jobs were in short supply. Being a resourceful and hardworking young man, Pappy began renovating bank owned properties. Pappy was called to serve in the Navy during World War II, and hired Hal Laughlin to run his business. Upon his return from service, the partnership and HarenLaughlin Construction was born.

Pappy’s son Tod joined the company in the late 1960’s as a laborer, carpenter, and superintendent before joining the management team. After taking over the reins in the mid 1970’s, Tod grew the company through continued hard work and dedication.

In 1998 C.W. ‘Wells’ Haren III purchased HarenLaughlin Construction. Under his steadfast direction and leadership, the company has more than doubled in size. Now in our third generation, this employee-owned and operated business holds true to the principles of our founder providing quality craftsmanship, exceptional value and outstanding customer service.

Recent Community Commitments

Heart to Heart International

During our company’s Day of Service, a team from HarenLaughlin worked with Heart to Heart International to prepare over 600 emergency health kits, which are shipped to disaster sites all over the world. These kits support both international and domestic disaster relief efforts including those close to home in areas like Reading, Kansas and Joplin, Missouri.

Hope Faith Ministries

The HarenLaughlin  team used our construction expertise to secure materials and provide labor for renovations to transitional housing facilities.  Our team is proud to serve our community, especially serving those who find themselves in situations of extraordinary need.

Habitat for Humanity – Community Build

HarenLaughlin employees contributed over 240 hours to a Habitat for Humanity home build. Our team committed both workday and personal leisure time to Habitat.

“The best part of our build day was knowing that we were making a difference in the lives of a Kansas City family.”
— Danny Wastler, Director of Business Development & Marketing

Make-A-Wish Foundation

Granting five wishes for critically ill children was the objective of a Luau Celebration sponsored by HarenLaughlin Construction and hosted at Briarcliff Village. Contributing personal time, talent and barbeque expertise, HarenLaughlin employees supported these fund raising efforts resulting in the potential to grant not only five wishes, but six additional wishes for children.

The Builders Association – Scholarship Foundation

Each year we sponsor The Builders’ Association Invitational Golf Tournament. This function is the sole funding source for the organization’s Scholarship Foundation. By participating, we contribute to the next generation of construction industry professionals, funding 15 scholarships annually.

“In supporting the Builder’s Association Scholarship Foundation, we assist students in securing quality education. These students are the future of our industry.”
— Wells Haren, President

Catholic Charities Foundation of Northeast Kansas

Lifting up those who are challenged by poverty of mind, body and spirit is the objective of Catholic Charities. The annual Golf Classic procures critical funding to provide support to families in our community. As a long-time sponsor of this event, HarenLaughlin is deeply rooted in supporting the organizations’ mission.
